Obituary: John Carlyle Hemby, Jr. passed away suddenly on December 3, 2014. Mr Hemby was born in Nashville, Tennessee
on September 16, 1928. He graduated from East High School in Nashville, was an Eagle Scout, and served in the National Guard
Reserve. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1950 and began a 43 year career at Georgia
Power Company. He worked in various positions in Athens, Waycross;, Macon, and Atlanta, where he retired as Executive Vice
President. Throughout his career and retirement, Mr. Hemby was deeply involved in civic and community organizations and activities.
These included the Girl Scouts, the Macon-Bibb County Clean Community Commission, the Downtown Atlanta Kiwanis Club, the Southeast
American Korean Chamber of Commerce, the Olmstead Linear Park Alliance, Trees Atlanta, and many others. He was a member of
the Georgia Tech Engineering Hall of Fame. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and a talented pianist. He is
survived by his wife of 64 years, June Hardeman Hemby; daughters Lisa (Larry) Ferris, Mary Claire (David) Hill, Susan (Scott)
Stutzman; son Tom Hemby; 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son
"Spring Hill Chapel on Saturday, December 6 at 10 o'clock, followed by a funeral service at 12:30, and burial in Arlington
Memorial Park in Sandy Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Georgia AGAPE, the Olmstead Linear Park Alliance,
or the charity of your choice.
